Yuval Noah Harari, the bestselling author of Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind, predicts that the future workforce of the 21st century will need to be an adaptable and resilient one to cope with rapidly changing markets and an increasingly digital economy. In his thought-provoking interview on Impact Theory, he postulates that people will need to upskill multiple times throughout their lives in order to stay relevant, with technology disruptors transforming industry and making some job roles obsolete.

During the Covid-19 lockdown the Self-Help industry has boomed, flooding the net with self-improvement related marketing. The Tech World has been quick to declare technology related industries as both recession-proof and pandemic-proof, as businesses scramble to meet demand. While businesses in other industries suffer, these “pandemic-proof” companies have been experiencing growth. This changing dynamic may continue to play out long after the restrictions ease, shaping the very world we live in. This makes tech skills highly sought after, although they won’t be the only skills worth learning. Allana Akhtar identifies the “15 jobs no one knew about in 2010 that everyone will want in 2020” in her article in the Business Insider.
