I beseech thee
Leave me alone to be solitary
I will stand out in the barren field
To weather the storm
Like a mighty old oak tree

Let me rejuvenate
Winter has passed
I wish to glow in the sun
And reign in the silence when it is night
Stars dancing around me until it is light

For too long
I have absorbed all the hurt in the dirt
All the dark in my bark
All the pain of every drop of rain
All the grief with each single fallen leaf
But my stubborn roots breed new shoots
And I wage on for another age
