The Housing Crisis is Crippling Young People
It always amazes me how often I see someone from the older generation, those lucky Boomers, shake their head in disbelief at every seemingly indulgent, entitled and self-serving Millennial and Zoomer that happen to enter their workplace.
It’s a sign of the times, they say. They’re spoilt and ignorant about the realities of the world, they moan. They are addicted to their screens, mired in mental health issues, and just can’t focus. Where is their drive and sense of responsibility?
They prattle on, as if it were some other generation that contributed to the conditions of unsustainable growth we see today.
These same people are likely to have had their house value triple and quadruple, sometimes many times over, during the course of their working career, while a young person’s chance of homeownership today in the western world, compared to the previous generation, is significantly lower than any other time in recorded history. Despite all the information and drive to find a workaround, like building a home for yourself, there are endless restrictions because every part of this planet has already been claimed by somebody else.
