Today, in our digitalised, social media driven world we are constantly reminded of other places. Our eyes are glued to our laptops, phones or television screens from dawn until dusk. Advertisements of holidays in the sun and winter ski holidays are blitzed across our retinas as we go about our day.

Using complicated search algorithms, Software Developers have made browsing the internet and social media as addictive as crack cocaine. We are already three of four articles down the rabbit hole before we become conscious of where we are and that we have things to do today. With some effort, we tear our dry eyes away and save the unread articles for later in the day when we’ll have more time to indulge.

Millennials are far less absorbed in their surroundings than ever before and with an array of comparative information at their fingertips, they are also far more likely to complain about it. As soon as a stray thought about living elsewhere crops up, we are only seven articles and five clicks away from starting a new life as an English Language Teacher in Chang Mai. Let alone when winter hits and it feels like we’re trapped in a grey monotonous wind tunnel.
